Every year we try to spread some festive cheer and after such a tough year, we wanted to give back to the local community. Like many of us, Home-Start had to adapt their way of working when the pandemic hit, with many families needing their support more than ever. Here at may, we wanted to lend a helping hand, and contacted Home-Start South Leicestershire, offering to donate personalised stockings filled with children’s gifts to local families. We were thrilled that they accepted our offer, with Stella Renwick, Charity Development Manager, saying “we were delighted when may contacted us out of the blue with their kind offer. We are always delighted when local businesses support their local charities in creative ways”.

Over 36 years, Home-Start South Leicestershire, and their community of trained volunteers and expert staff, have supported 6941 children in 3442 families across the Harborough district. As part of the National Federation of Home-Start charities founded in Leicester by Margaret Harrison in 1973, they support families in their homes where the support can be shaped to the family’s needs. Aiming to help parents give their children the best possible start, Home-Start South Leicestershire offer support for families in group sessions and through parenting courses. Their community also provides parents with opportunities to share support and friendship to help overcome some of life’s difficulties. Their work is so successful that Home-Start is now a worldwide movement, improving the lives of families in 22 countries across 5 continents.

We were overwhelmed with the support and generosity from may staff, family and friends, as well as partners and associates of the agency. With over 200 toys it meant we were able to give double the number of children’s stockings than originally planned. Our office quickly resembled Santa’s Grotto and we filled each stocking with specifically selected presents, to make each child’s Christmas special. may delivered each stocking to Home-Start who hand-delivered them all to the children in time for Christmas.

We were delighted when may contacted us out of the blue with their kind offer. We are always delighted when local businesses support their local charities in creative ways. We are looking forward to meeting the team hopefully in the not too distant future and sharing news about our work.

Home-Start South Leicestershire have an incredible impact on the lives of local families, and it was a pleasure to help them, and the families they support, in this small way.
